Pay federal business taxes: EFTPS and Direct Pay

Choose between EFTPS and IRS Direct Pay for supported federal business tax payments, and confirm the correct form, payment reason, and tax period.

Businesses can pay federal taxes through EFTPS or, for supported payment types, IRS Direct Pay for businesses. Direct Pay is available to businesses as well as individuals.

Use EFTPS for business payments

Go to EFTPS.gov (Opens in a new tab) to enroll or make a payment. EFTPS supports all federal tax payment types and recurring payments.

Enrollment takes time. Your business will receive a PIN by mail. Complete enrollment before you need to make a payment, rather than waiting until the due date.

Use Direct Pay for supported business payments

Go to IRS Direct Pay for businesses (Opens in a new tab). You can pay from a bank account without signing in or enrolling in EFTPS.

Check the IRS list of supported business payment types (Opens in a new tab) before paying. Supported options include certain business income taxes and employment tax deposits; availability depends on the tax form and payment reason.

Before you submit a payment

  • Use the correct business EIN.
  • Confirm the tax form, reason for payment, and tax year or quarter against our instructions or your IRS notice.
  • Save the confirmation number and payment details.
  • If a payroll provider handles the payment, confirm whether it has already scheduled it before paying again.
